Most people live their lives based on social interactions and societal expectations. Many would think it normal that going out every weekend and drinking alcohol is just what you do and is the way of life. As a writer I imagine that I look at things in a slightly different way. Writers must be conscious and take a step back from what has been engraved into their minds, along with every other person living on Earth. We are brain washed in a way, made to think that we must live life a certain way. This makes people crazy sometimes. They see those who would conflict with this way of living, even if the deviation is only slight. It confuses them and makes them mad. They can’t work out in their little brains how one would live differently. This makes these people violent and unruly. They think the only way to remedy this ‘problem’ they think is a problem is to commit an atrocious act of violence against innocent people who might not like to act the same or believe in the same things.
I think i've lived a life that’s made me susceptible to these kinds of horrible treatments. I actively promote living differently and thinking in ways that are not the norm. This is a way of life that makes me happy because being different can get you far. It introduces a new way of thinking and that can only be a good thing. The thing is though, i’ve never been the victim of any kind of violent behaviour. I feel very lucky to have lived all these years and not ended up in hospital or lying in a ditch beaten up because of how I look. I would say it’s because i’ve hidden well. I have in the way that I live in the same small town that I was born in, I have never been in a big city outside for an extended amount of time in a darkness containing the monsters of the night such as muggers and conservative thinkers. in many ways i’ve lived quite a solitary life. So far this has kept me safe. Yet, I feel like i’ve missed out on some things that I might have experienced in the darkness such as night time parties and festivals.
Really I think the best way to both feel safe being different and also live your best fullest life is to not care. It’s to plan well for the possibilities of being in unsafe places, planning to tell people where you will be, who you will go with and most importantly, finding events and places that are full of people who think like you too. The kindest people in this world, I have found, are the free thinkers, the hippies and those who are different in all the best ways. These are the people you should surround yourself with, because they are also great bodyguards when they need to be. Don’t mess with the free thinkers, unless you want to be hurt.
I’ve always been curious about how weird things can stimulate a feeling of nostalgia. You can’t deny that feeling nostalgic is a great feeling. It allows us to look back at the good things that have made our lives and for a moment we can ignore anything that is bad in the present. For example, certain smells like swimming pools and fresh flowers make me think of great hazy summers when I was a child. I remember a large rock formation just over the large hill where I grew up that provided us with hours of happiness because it was like our own giant obstacle course. It was basically a pile of rubble but nostalgia has clouded my memories to see that big pile of rocks as the greatest playground for a young growing boy. That’s how I remember it because that’s what makes me happy. I had a great childhood in the Yorkshire countryside, quite stereotypical for a working class upbringing like mine. I was allowed the freedom to play in nature around my house and create lasting memories by building dens and playing games, it was great.
I like to remember the happy times like those because it’s a good way to provide self help in times where you might be feeling down. Memories are more important than any of us really do realise. I mean, if we clog up our thoughts with bad memories, like Roald Dahl says, the thoughts will start to show. That’s why many people tend to looked stressed, they have lots of bad memories and neglect the good memories that are in jail in the back of their minds. So here are three ways you could create happy days in the present too.
Do you ever look at social media nowadays and think how low some people can strike at those who can’t help the way they are? It’s strange how much these people seem to over think everything when it comes to LGBT and minority issues.
You would think that they would want to think less about those things if it was such an issue. Social media can be great for making a name for yourself and creating relationships with people in places in the world you can only visit in your wildest dreams. It’s wonderful and there are millions and millions of oddly great human beings that populate the internet, but we don’t pay attention to them.
We give the attention, wrongly, to the ones who are controversial, who say things we disagree with. It creates debate and widens the conversation.
They create an issue out of the littlest of things like the inclusion of a lesbian couple on a game show or a gay kiss. It’s stupid how much they care, how much they need to desperately make it a crusade every time they see something that they don’t agree with for some odd bizarre reason (excuse) like their religious beliefs or generational differences.
It’s not because your old, views change, society changes, we all can better ourselves regardless of anything that society has influences.
It isn’t an issue though, to these hermit groups of people, because they can’t grasp that love will always just be love and that’s all. They overthink and it leads to misinformed thoughts, stereotypes and ways of looking at how LGBTQ people have relationships.
They have mood boards of AIDS and promiscuity and sleeping around I wrote an article a few months back on the subject of an over-sexualisation of LBGTQ people which you can read here- the-over-sexualisation-of-gay.html
I think it’s important to note that we should never stereotype LGBT people in this way because we are all the same. I mean yes, some people have a certain problem with being over eager to hook up, but that can actually be a genuine addiction, but that’s another subject all together and is definitely not the majority of ordinary folk.
That’s just it though, some people don’t necessarily have issue with it, it’s more about being able to express a different viewpoint. We should always respect the fact that people have different viewpoints. It is how we will move forward in our society. There must always be a cut off point though. It’s disgusting how far some people will go in order to get a reaction. I’ve seen some terrible things online, and I think unless something drastic is done, it will only get worse. Hate needs to be regulated.
Reactions are nothing really, a reaction is a temporary thing, and temporary things will be worthless ultimately. All the time these people spend online spreading their prejudice and hate and disguising themselves behind blank profiles and names like ‘trolls’ they make a habit of being terrible people. Why would you want to spend even a second of your life doing that?
Few things nowadays make me genuinely sad. I mean, i’ve kind of learnt to just get over things that won’t affect my life seriously. There is never much point dwelling on things or taking them personally when it’s something that is not really worth the time or energy.
Then it happened. I logged on my computer and, like everyday, checked to see the big news of the day. I like to keep up to date at all times like that because i’m a media savvy person, sort of. This was news that I could not let pass though.
This was not a small discrepancy or slight inconvenience. No, NETFLIX CANCELS SENSE8. The words struck me like a dagger. I immediately began to tear up and a rage, one like I had never experienced filled me.
I knew that the petitions would come, the trends would be hash tagged and I knew that eventually an statement full of choice words and careful ways of writing things would be used by Netflix as a way of basically saying ‘SHUT UP AND ACCEPT IT, LOSERS’ .
It’s not just another series though is it? Sense8 is something special. Not only is it really, remarkably impressive visually and through its writing and acting, it’s simply marvellous. It’s marvellous because it makes you a better person having watched it.
It normalises what should be normal and doesn’t trivialise what really, in the modern age, need not be trivialised. It’s basically telling the world that LGBT people and other beliefs and religions, ways of living, poor or rich and intelligent or not, are all the same. We are all one in a system. The sensate might be eight people connected but there is so much more to it.
They are a metaphor for us all being the same and connected somehow. So when we commit an atrocity, violence and actions through stupid immoral angers, we are hurting a part of us all. Can you name me another television series that achieves this? I can’t think of one.
There came the joyous message of hope through Netflix commissioning a two hour finale so that the story can be properly finished. For me, as someone who is never happy it seems, this is not enough. The thing is, we might have to forever except this as enough.
It’s the cost that’s the problem it seems. If a series doesn’t have enough audience when it costs so much, what is the point, in the eyes of a money making media company, in making the expensive series. Thats why for now, even though you may be like me and wanting more of SENSE8, maybe it’s time to just wait for what is to come with the two hour finale.
Let’s battle for more after that, when we see what the amazing sisters do with the series for the commissioned two hours. I think it’s going to be a master class into why SENSE8 will forever be a part of everyone who had the opportunity to watch it and be a better person because of watching it.
A Great Idea
There is no denying that this was a great idea for a Netflix series. Its the most popular Netflix series ever and it’s not hard to see why. The idea of spreading this important message through Netflix means that the binge watching audience can receive a lesson in ethics that will hopefully change their bias ways of thinking. Every body can say they have made mistakes when it comes to treating others wrongly, but it’s how we go on and redeem ourselves that makes a difference.
As the show progresses and the situation becomes more and more about the horrific reasons why this poor teenage girl is led to kill herself, the drama of the programme increases, well, dramatically.
Along with drama, the tension between the characters also increases, which leads to the amazing last few episodes. This show has been written to have lots of tension because it’s supposed to be a tense watch.
We see, especially through the characters of Clay and Hannah, moments of laughter that are important. They show that the characters really did get on and were falling in love. A piece of information that makes the whole thing more sad.
The friendships in the series are strong and natural, much like any other teenage friendship. This is important to show this experience can be had by anyone. It’s not just people with no friends. In fact, friendship in the case of Hannah actually led to many of the reasons why she killed herself. Friends can be dangerous sometimes if you pick the wrong personalities to allow in your life. They can hurt you without a moments notice.
She is the character with the most life yet throughout the whole thing she is actually dead. Hannah kills herself and the 13 reasons why are more important than you would at first realise.
The messages that are plastered through this series are not just about suicide. It’s about bullying, kindness, appreciation of others, listening to problems and treating every body with the same human compassion that you look for from others. It’s not easy growing up so why make it even more difficult for a chosen few.
He’s got all the facial expressions and the natural attitude of a great, multiple layered protagonist. He is an anomaly in the 13 reasons, and his presence in the tapes makes this character all the more important.
No Dumbing Down
This problem set out in the series is complex. This is important because suicide and the reasons for going through with it are always complex. It’s never a decision taken lightly and it was important for this programme to never dumb down the subject of teenage troubles and suicide as a general thing.
Much like friendships, the teenage troubles experienced by all the characters, not just Hannah are shown to be similar to the experiences we all have. This explicitly shows that this story should hit very close to home to all of us, regardless of circumstance. Maybe there is someone close to you right now who needs reaching out to and helping going through the exact same teenage troubles.
She is the character with the most life yet throughout the whole thing she is actually dead. Hannah kills herself and the 13 reasons why are more important than you would at first realise.
There are no lies or ways around what the series is trying to tell us. What Hannah does may be fictional in that it is a story adapted from a book, but it tells of something that is completely true. Teenage suicides are so common, it’s horrible to even mention statistics. This happens every day in the world, teenagers attempting or achieving exactly what the main character does in the programme. It’s one of the greats because it’s so truthful.
In the scene where we see Hannah kill herself there is a horrific sense of regret that is cast over her face. Props to Katherine, the actress because this scene was both sad, compelling and memorable at the same time. It’s an important scene that I think everyone needs to watch. People like Hannah exist every day regretting what they have done immediately.
Potential For More
Selena Gomez, the executive producer, has already said that there is potential for another series. This might confuse many as the original book was about why Hannah killed herself. There is no reason why we can’t see a series that continues the stories of the other characters though. It seems like the final episode was very much setting up opportunity for the characters stories to continue, and seeing as the series has proven to be quite popular, I don’t think it will be the last of clay and the others that we will be seeing.
In the modern world it's easy to become overwhelmed with expectations of how we should look and think and dress and act. Life has become a performance, a way to set out in impressing others that we live side by side with. It's odd, and I really don't think this was the purpose of life when it was developing.
It's the little things that make us who we are. I've always said that to be human you have to be different and that doesn't just mean the way you act and speak. Your personality is the part of you that you can decide to control, the majority of us can dictate what we say, so for all of us thats the best way we can be in control of how the rest of society perceives us.
What we look like and how people view us on the outside and at a distance is something we have less control over. Yes, we can plaster on makeup, style the hair on our heads and exercise to build our muscles to get that perfect aesthetic all humans apparently long for, but really we have very little control. It’s mostly about luck when it comes to looks. At least in the superficial sense.
The thing is though, much like we control our inner selfs, we can to a point, control the outer self too. Its about positive thinking. If we feel positive then it will show on the outside more. A smile can do wonders even if it’s a day where we really don’t have anything to smile about. It shows strength and dignity to smile and silently tell the rest of the world that no biological thing can beat you.
Thats why I love to see body positivity and people who don’t care about the judgments of others. Uniqueness is an achievement in a world of sheep led by shepherds. It’s not something that you have to try hard to do either. Every day we can move further away from the old ways of thinking. We can see the world as opportunity to express ourselves. If the majority did this then our world would be a lot more colourful and positive. I think we would achieve more as a society. The world wouldn’t have that dark shadow of wickedness cast over it that there is right now.
There would be light and cheerfulness that would make us all wake up early on a morning and smile that the world is awake with us. That’s the only way we can advance and be better people. It’s simple really, to be a decent human being. I think people who judge others so much are also lacking in the confidence that they are trying to take from others. It’s a vicious circle that we all need to get out of. Be nicer to each other for goodness sake, what is it possibly going to take?
ELIJAH AND CHRISTINE/ ELIJAH AND CHRISTINE, ETC.
Youtube seemed to be going through something at the moment. It’s like Youtubers and YouTube itself are in some kind of bad relationship. I think sometimes you just have to step back and let them talk things through and try to work through things. Regardless, there is still lots of great content coming from YouTubers experienced and just starting.
It’s great to give the deserving the attention they deserve which is why i have decided to feature YouTubers that I have been into recently. If you have been following me on Twitter, you will know how much i have been enjoying Elijah and Christine this month. They are unique in that they are obviously the antithesis of what a majority of YouTubers try to be. They are fairly successful at it too. I mean, they are hilarious. Well, In my opinion they are. I suppose they are people you either love or hate. The thing is though, they hate whatever many social media stars are synthetically trying to be. That’s why I love them. They see who is trying to use social media for selfish gain and empty talentless crap and they subject them to the most hilarious ridicule on their channels Elijah and Christine and Elijah and Christine, etc.
They just just stop at social media stars though. One of their most popular videos is a parody song of The Chainsmoker and Halsey’s Closer. They make fun of the simple lyrics and whole song concept by replacing every single lyric with a variation of the words ‘BING’ and ‘BONG’. When Christine starts singing on this parody, I lose it every time. She is one of the best human beings that is alive right now and she deserves every success. Watch her closely and you realise just how intelligent she is. You know, behind all the being high and pop culture references. Funny takes genius though, and Elijah and Christine are definitely doing funny.
They also just don’t seem to care about money. They are having fun and that’s mostly what matters. YouTube keeps demonetising their videos. This comes as a result of them openly smoking weed, swearing, swinging around dildos and various other outrageous things that a certain audience loves but the men in suits too tight at YouTube can’t seem to comprehend as simple ironic entertainment that deserves money as much as a faked prank video where a guy loses his life morals for a few grand. Videos take a lot of work, especially quality content. Many may say that this is not content that you would deem quality but… have you seen some of the ridiculous videos on YouTube making loads of money nowadays, it’s pathetic when you think of the disparity between accepting one video and another because of popularity and the viewpoint of some uptight big wigs.
On the subject of big wigs. Elijah and Christine are giant fans of drag race just like me, and for this they are my YouTubers of The Month. Drag Race is life. So are these two unique people. Keep doing exactly what you are doing. AND FEATURE THE CANDLE VLOGGER MORE.
We all feel it, the peculiar change in weather, the sense of doom in the air and the overall warming of our planet. We see images every day of the scarred earth. The ice caps melting and images of gaunt looking polar bears. It’s depressing, hard to look at. It’s something we tend to turn away from. Everyone knows it is happening, but there are many reasons why people may choose to not believe that Global warming is doing exactly what it is actually doing in front of our eyes as the days turn colder and… warmer at the same time.
The point of this article is try to get to the bottom of the reasons why people might avoid the whole idea of global warming, and although they may seem far fetched, these things actually happen every day, and if nothing is done about it, that orange man in the most powerful role in the world might continue down the dark path of avoiding and lying when it comes to the subject of global warming.
Many people don’t want to believe it’s happening. It’s a great way of living if you don’t care about other people, much like pretending that everything happening in Syria isn’t happening. It’s the idea of just not caring. To be too scared of what the planet is coming to. We shouldn’t fear global warming because it is NEVER TOO LATE to change the way we live. It’s watching what you consume, making a conscious effort to recycle, appreciating water and caring for nature. Take a tree, plant 3 more. It’s living in happiness, not darkness, fear and greed.
The biggest reason that people choose to say that global warming is fake, money. It’s the root of evil, as the well known phrase dictates. It’s also the root of many people in power being giant idiots. They might also actually just be idiots with stupid hair and an addiction to fatty foods, but they also neglect nature for receptacles of a man made form of trading. It’s pathetic really when you think that old men now would further the extinction of human beings and the planet they live on along with other innocent creatures, for stupid money. Horrible people, stupid foul ideas. They will be the downfall of society, nothing else.
So there we go. All we can say as sane human beings to these people is ‘GLOBAL WARMING EXISTS, FOOLS’ and hope that they come to their sense before it is too late. What a world when this way of thinking actually exists. That’s one thing i would like to go away, you know, like famine, unnatural natural disasters and a world that is dying because of how we treat it!
