There are so many different kinds of hats that are not boring caps. Hats should be more at the forefront of future clothing design. Hats should be more universally excepted as they are an accessory that shows of a lot about a persons personality. What else is clothing for but to silently show people in society what kind of person you are. Expressing ourselves through a nice, personal hat gives us a chance to show our style and aesthetic in a way we usually can’t through a simple cap or a dull coloured fisherman's hat.
Japan is such a rich culture, and when you look at their clothing styles you will notice a lot of imaginative and vibrant pieces that are full of colour and hosting a lot of pop culture references that not only look current but also exciting. Kawaii clothing is unique in that it gives the wearer a chance to stand out from the crowd.
The idea of a royal aesthetic comes from the influence of royals from yesteryear all over the world. Indian princesses, emperors and adorned kings, all were dressed in amazing clothing. There is surely a way for us to bring back this sense of majesty to clothing. I don’t necessarily mean for every day, but for occasions, I would love a fashion designer to base a collection around some kind of royal aesthetic with influence from lots of different kingdoms and states that have been and gone and revolutionised what fine clothing is.
Nowadays there is a concern that dressing in clothing that resembles cultural clothing is insulting. i will and never will except that this is a thing. Fair enough painting your face black is not an except able costume, or outwardly trying to dress in an insulting way is neither. What is perfectly fine though is using other cultures to influence clothing designs. Stop shutting and separating our cultures through clothing! It’s wrong.
Clothing is so dull nowadays. When I look at what clothing used to be in the 1970’s and 1980’s there used to be lots of colour and eye catching pattern, something I would love in clothing's now. You might argue that dull colours and plain is the fashion right now, but in my personal opinion, there should be the choice of colour and pattern. Trust me, there are a lot of eccentrics and artsy types that would jump at the chance to buy such garments.
