Minorities were once seen as people with different coloured skin and cultures. Now the LGBTQA community are enjoying a kind of ‘gay rights revolution’. With reports of suicides and shootings, what more can we do as a society to help out those who were simply born that way?
It was not long ago that homosexuals were cast out of society. Perhaps more shocking than this, it is not long ago that different races that were not white were viciously discriminated against for no apparent reason other than the colour of skin they were born with.
So when we see how progressed society is now, it may give reason for hope in the near future for a society of complete acceptance and understanding for those who were once thought to be lower class citizens. Times are changing and with the coming future our attitudes must change too. Imagine a world where old world views never went out of fashion.
Imagine a world where old world views never went out of fashion. Imagine it, a reliance on old world views would lead us to a not too distant future dystopia with no new influence or general evolution of mankind.
It sounds dim but this is the reality of such a world. Now can you see how important it is to adopt an attitude of acceptance not just for political correctness, but simply so we can move into the future as one species in a proper and realistic way. When such a societal change does happen it will open up a world of freedom and opportunity. It will be a shockingly quick change from an aura of repression which we all have to admit to feeling at some point in life at the moment, to a feeling of complete freedom and unity. We may all rightly consider ourselves as unique individuals but it is accepting the unique that will truly bring us all together. We must accept to thrive. Its as simple and clear cut as that.
The ‘A’ in LGBTQA STANDS FOR ALLY. A person who may consider themselves to be straight but accepting of the lifestyle around 10% of the world population leads. It isn’t a problem, as if 700 million mistakes of nature were made, surely nature is royally messing up and instead of causing more hatred in a world already chock full of random hate, we should maybe realise it is a marvellous thing to be different.
This is why we all should be allies. Regardless of race, colour, culture or belief. We are human. Don’t use your upbringing or inner prejudices to fight a losing battle. Guess what? That time has come and gone mister/ma’am. We are entering an age of acceptance, of alliance and happiness for all minorities. There is still problems, that is definitely true, and the problems cannot be ignored.
Don’t feel invasive if you have to fight for the cause, be a martyr for gay rights (in the sense of getting your voice heard by any sane means, not dying for the cause, that is a quite terrible idea)
Show your acceptance by displaying the gay rights rainbow flag. Go out, purchase a pin with it on, buy merchandise with symbols of acceptance and t-shirts with messages of hope and symbols of support.
I’m not saying you need to attend a militant rally or paint your face with rainbow war paints. Just bring attention to the fact we are still not there.
Why are we still not there? In many ways modern society has largely come to accept different sexualities and gender norms. This is a step in the right direction but the next step must be towards normalisation.
I think nowadays many people might feel nervous of LGBTQA culture because it’s still over sexualised in a big way. This is why many parents of young children may choose not to talk about how their second cousins best friend is a suspected ‘gay’’ as though they are some kind of sexual deviant who cannot be talked about in a normal days conversation between civilised individuals. People cannot and should not live their lives this way. It is a sad way to think and statistically people of the LGBTQA community are way less interested in sex than many people think. NOTE TO THE WORLD- Liking people of the same sex does not mean they will want more copulations compared with the lonely middle age guy who lives alone two doors down. Both are the same, both have needs that is true, because the simple fact is that they are both living and breathing members of a modern, free thinking and free doing society.
