I have always loved nature. The feeling of walking through a misty field on a silent morning taking in the fresh air and nothing more is the best. It is this that makes me happy. To many, walking on hills and through fields is simply a form of exercise. For me though it is a lot more. Yorkshire provides the backdrops for some of nature’s finest offerings. It cannot be denied that the area where I live is not a perfect place to walk. In fact it is one of the best places in the world to walk. That is if it hasn’t been raining profusely meaning all paths are full of mud and water logged. You get past this when you realise how beautiful the natural landscapes of Yorkshire are. The following reasons are why I have especially come to enjoy walking in the hills that surround my house.
Opportunity for reflection.
Life can sometimes get on top of us. So walking gives us time to reflect. It means that we can think about things that are sometimes neglected and put to the back of our minds in place of things we reckon are of more priority. This can impact negatively on us as we build up a list of bad things that are not being addressed adequately. I’ve personally been able to think about things that I would normally hold back from thinking about. Remember, we always need to address our problems, it helps us come to terms with them.
Silence from the hustle and bustle.
It’s not until we immerse ourselves in the true silence of nature that we realise how loud life actually is. I mean, no wonder people nowadays constantly have headaches and vision problems, we are being bombarded by the technology and chaos of the modern world. It’s always important to be joined once again with the silence of nature, because then we can take the time while we walk to listen to our bodies once again and learn what they want and need. It sounds spiritual, but in doing this you will realise how our bodies do actually speak to us physically. You know, when it’s finally silent.
Happiness in nature.
I find myself smiling when i’m outside on top of a hill looking out high at the views I can see. I don’t know why it makes me so happy, but it is probably something to do with how i used to walk a lot as a child. When i’m out with my dog and we are walking in places I used to play and have fun in as a child, It brings back a lot of sentimentality and nostalgia that does it’s job of making me feel happy and content. I suppose it also makes me happy to think nature is making me feel this way.
Perfect For The Imagination.
England provides many unique landscapes that have influenced the way I see worlds in my imagination. Yorkshire seems to be a step above the rest though. Nature here always gives a renewed vision every time I step outside. Even when I find myself walking in a place I have been many times before, I feel like my mind has been reinvigorated.
