When I feel the most down its usually when i haven’t got any travel plans to look forward to. One of the best things you can for yourself if it is at all possible is to plan and book a holiday to a far away place or even somewhere not very far away at all. You don’t need much money to be able to travel, just the availability of time and the willingness and want to explore places you’ve never been. It’s great to see new places and realise how wonderful the world actually is.
Its good to be the person who shares nice pictures online, but actually being there, immersing yourself in the culture and practices of a place for a short while is one of the best things we can do in life. People with wanderlust often cannot feel happy until they are in a foreign place. They don’t want to go to the same places and do the same things. You see, people that are greatly afflicted with wanderlust are more likely to find life fulfilling, they are eager and want to do more with life, so they work and try hard so that they can make that a possibility.
That’s why in my opinion travel is vital part of life. It’s a must, just like breathing, socialising and being kind to fellow human beings. It’s a need that we should all partake in. As a society we are quick to judge those who think it’s their right to try exploring the world more. A holiday is a chance for fulfilment, travel is for renewing and broadening our minds. Some of the most judgemental and close minded people on our little planet are those who have not travelled.
So travel is also a need for a fair and just society that can function with a wide range of people from different beliefs and cultures. It comes as a surprise to some people that their culture is sometimes not the norm. That what they believe is not necessarily the right way to believe.
There is no right way to believe when you visit other places, the people influence you and let you into their culture, most of the time with open arms. There are good and bad people every where, this is something many people need to realise. Until you travel to different places and see them for yourself you are never going to realise that all the bad things you see on the news are not necessarily the majority opinions of a country. Get out there and experience this world yourself.
Yesterday I got on a train, something I needed to do because I had an important hospital appointment. It was quite an ordinary train journey regardless of the weather being a bit odd. It was kind of sunny, but then really cold.
This isn’t the remarkable thing about that train journey though. I suddenly came to a realisation that people are really unfriendly, like remarkably unfriendly. I have no idea whether it is a generational thing or just the type of people that live in the area that I have to live, but its odd.
Why are people so closed off? Is it technology? Is technology something to blame? Thats what we tend to do though, as humans, we blame others, we give in to our narcissistic urges to please only ourselves and we are getting worse.
We are electing narcissists into power and promoting narcissists into high power roles. They are the people choosing what news we are fed, what we watch and read and judge other people on.
It’s not that i’m against the establishments or anything, because that would trigger people to think of me as crazy. No, I just want people to be friendlier. I mean, sometimes i fear that one day I will fall down and nobody will help me, that i will be left, and even thought thousands will go by me in a busy street, they will be too obsessed with the consumption of vapid media and unnecessary evil news. It’s sad, and it needs to change.
Talk to people more. Remember we are human and we possess the amazing ability to speak to each other. We are all alone at some point in our lives, no matter how popular we think we are. Popularity is an odd thing because even the most followed people on social media feel like they are alone, that they are shut out from the society around them. Don’t you agree?
It’s been a stressful few months for everyone. I’m sure nobody can say they have never been stressed. I mean, it’s a natural human reaction that can possibly be an indicator that you are going to soon find some success. We can’t be stressed unless we are doing hard work? Right? It’s always so far fetched some of the things you hear about how to be happier when you feel so down and sad. Sometimes the things that are suggested feel empty, like the person writing it has never actually experienced how it really feel to be unhappy and anxious. Believe me, i’m an expert in this field.
1) Outside and Fresh Air
One of the worst things you can do when you are feeling down is to keep yourself secluded from nature and the fresh air. It’s widely known that nature will relax us. I even wrote about that in depth- What we need to remember is that seeing the same four walls, whether at work or home, will be sure to keep you down and depressed. It’s a vicious circle.
2) Close Your Eyes
Sometimes we also need to block out every single little distraction to truly be relaxed. It’s good to see nothing but the soothing darkness when we feel like we have been overexposed by the chaos of modern life. Seeing nothing can be a good thing, and you will immediately feel the benefits of sitting somewhere, even if it is a busy place, and artificially hiding from the world
This kind of goes with the last point. the world is a noisy place. People think they can say everything that comes into their heads when it’s hurtful and rude. Silence is a rarity that we should find. Even if it’s just a few minutes every day. All that noise is certainly stressful, so relax with complete seclusion and silence. Maybe it is except-able to hum or chant in a whispery tone, but that’s it. Be so silent you can hear each breath and focus on it. I think the introvert in me is taking over.
4) Good Things
It’s good to treat yourself now and then. I don’t much like material living and the idea of a throwaway society, but buying something you like can be a form of relaxing therapy. It makes us happy to finally buy something that we have always wanted. Remember, this shouldn’t be something pointless. It’s approaching two years since I bought the best thing that i’ve ever spent money on… my dog Barnaby.
5) Animal Interaction
So about Barnaby. He helps me cope with the challenges of life, and a pet can do this for you too. Perhaps your not really ready for the commitment that a pet involves, so why not take advantage of the numerous pet rental and sitting websites and apps that are cropping up now. I’ve never tried them because i’ve got my own dog to focus on, but I think animals provide the ultimate therapy and relaxation fix, undeniably.
I have always loved nature. The feeling of walking through a misty field on a silent morning taking in the fresh air and nothing more is the best. It is this that makes me happy. To many, walking on hills and through fields is simply a form of exercise. For me though it is a lot more. Yorkshire provides the backdrops for some of nature’s finest offerings. It cannot be denied that the area where I live is not a perfect place to walk. In fact it is one of the best places in the world to walk. That is if it hasn’t been raining profusely meaning all paths are full of mud and water logged. You get past this when you realise how beautiful the natural landscapes of Yorkshire are. The following reasons are why I have especially come to enjoy walking in the hills that surround my house.
Opportunity for reflection.
Life can sometimes get on top of us. So walking gives us time to reflect. It means that we can think about things that are sometimes neglected and put to the back of our minds in place of things we reckon are of more priority. This can impact negatively on us as we build up a list of bad things that are not being addressed adequately. I’ve personally been able to think about things that I would normally hold back from thinking about. Remember, we always need to address our problems, it helps us come to terms with them.
Silence from the hustle and bustle.
It’s not until we immerse ourselves in the true silence of nature that we realise how loud life actually is. I mean, no wonder people nowadays constantly have headaches and vision problems, we are being bombarded by the technology and chaos of the modern world. It’s always important to be joined once again with the silence of nature, because then we can take the time while we walk to listen to our bodies once again and learn what they want and need. It sounds spiritual, but in doing this you will realise how our bodies do actually speak to us physically. You know, when it’s finally silent.
Happiness in nature.
I find myself smiling when i’m outside on top of a hill looking out high at the views I can see. I don’t know why it makes me so happy, but it is probably something to do with how i used to walk a lot as a child. When i’m out with my dog and we are walking in places I used to play and have fun in as a child, It brings back a lot of sentimentality and nostalgia that does it’s job of making me feel happy and content. I suppose it also makes me happy to think nature is making me feel this way.
Perfect For The Imagination.
England provides many unique landscapes that have influenced the way I see worlds in my imagination. Yorkshire seems to be a step above the rest though. Nature here always gives a renewed vision every time I step outside. Even when I find myself walking in a place I have been many times before, I feel like my mind has been reinvigorated.
Donald trump is becoming such a problem that even writing his name seems to bring a certain amount of angst and discomfort. I wish I didn’t have to talk about this man. Sometimes this is exactly what I wish people could do, not talk about this man. He is doing destructive things in a shockingly short amount of time. I simply cannot get my head around the fact he is the president of the united states, and the most powerful man in the world.
This isn’t because I can’t embrace that he had won though. In fact, when he first won I spent a few days questioning whether all the things he said were just a mode to get into power. I thought he wasn’t actually that kind of person or even that evil. This would definitely, for the most part, turn out to be severely and stingingly untrue. He genuinely is a bit of a nut case. Even his supporters can’t deny this. All you need to do is look at his Twitter and realise how much of a selfish narcissistic he is. When he says he has the interest of the American people as a priority, he lies. The only person Donald Trump really cares about is himself.
He has proven this with showing explicitly where his interest lie in his travel ban. If he genuinely wanted to protect his countries border he would go through an in depth analysis of where the real dangers lie. I could tell him him myself that the majority of deaths in his precious America could be cut down by simply banning guns. But then his business and social interests would be affected wouldn’t they? All the dangerous, evil and manipulative people whispering in his ears are getting to him.
He’s starting to get stressed, focusing only on mediocre attacks and basic, petty things like protests (which are free speech, something he has relied on to get into his position of pseudo power) to distract people from the real issues and things he is signing in his stupid executive orders. The white house has now been filled with the biggest plagues to society as a means to ruin the America laid out in the constitution. They are a bunch of spoilt brats who know nothing about improving the country and would rather sit and finance themselves into gluttony and early deaths having spent the countries taxes on unnecessary things like a big stupid wall across the Mexican border than actually do anything to help American.
If you still think the people in positions of power in this government are here to help you and improve your country or planet, you live in a dark hole. I don’t even think they would care if Donald Trump died, I mean… I don’t even think he does anything powerful in this twisted form of government. He is the figure head of a system of hatred that is probably led by Steve Bannon (or Voldemort personified) He is a bigger danger to democracy to any president that has ever been in power, this is a fact.
