When you look at the world what do you see? We need to start thinking more about the state of our planet. This is the place we live. Earth is a fragile thing that needs to be looked after. Like all living things that co exist with humans, Earth requires attention, care and nourishment. Much like a dog or a newborn human baby, it rely’s on others to do this. I mean, we live on it’s surface, it makes perfect sense that we respect it. You don't ruin the place you live. Would you systematically punch holes in your roof and gradually weaken the structure of your house if someone said you could have an extra portion of chips with your dinner every day?
Nature as it is today has come as a result of many years of evolution, development and environmental change. The Earth used to be a dangerous place full of nasty animals and erratic volcanoes. As an adolescent Earth was stroppy, it didn’t like all the growth it had to go through to mature. Then when it was finally matured enough to start hosting a basic civilisation, those beings (humans) straight away set to work on the land. Agriculture developed, society grew, population spread out across the lands that they discovered. For a while, it would have worked, The Earth was content, going about it’s natural cycle, growing into the life sustaining complex planet we see today.
Then things started to get twisted. Humans forgot about nature, they focused on growth. Growth of wealth, of stature, of human consumption and waist size. Rich people got richer taking from the poor who still relied on the land. They were left behind in a society that now focuses on monetary gain that TRUMPS everything else that exists. As we became more intelligent, the world became more mechanical, more synthetic and fake. Nature now, it is dirt and soil and an annoyance to progress. If they could they would build houses everywhere, construct massive temples that sell fatty foods made from creatures that pollute the land in mass quantities. That's exactly what it is like when people are using money as an excuse to show little care about nature. Denying Global warming is stupid. People who deny that the things that are happening in relation to the weather, natural disaster and natural resources are actually happening only have themselves to blame when they spend their last years on top of a floating car. At least that car is a brand new Mercedes bought outright though... right?!
The future version of what we are will look back hiding themselves from another daily occurrence of natural disaster. They will have to hide their children from things that used to be animals changed because of nuclear fallout, a mass world war. They hide in shacks on stilts built hastily when their cities flood from forgetting about the power of natures forces. Then, when a wide eyed child sees a flower growing out of soil in a scratched old vintage cola can from 2017, they will look to their parents and say ‘Nature was so important’. Why didn’t you listen? Why didn’t you care? How could you be so foolish?
What’s It About?
The Bad Beginning introduces to the Baudelaire’s and their odd surroundings. It is the story of how they became orphans and met a terrible man who will be both their legal guardian, man who is trying to murder them and greatest enemy all in one. Olaf is the ultimate villain. A sadistic man that is strangely likeable in his quirkiness and ability to transform his character at the click of a finger. This book is one of the epic story the children go through is the story of how they come to meet this evil villain who will spend a lot of time trying to get his talentless hands on their fortune.
Is It Worth My Time?
Immediately you are immersed in the writing and bizarre world of Lemony Snicket. It’s unique in it’s simplicity and complexity at the same time. He really knows how to write for both children and adults, which is probably why these books are well loved by both. This books is a masterclass in how to write an appealing, exciting tale. It’s ironic that the author himself is continuously explicit at trying to put the reader off reading any more of the unfortunate tale. I would very confidently say that this book at the very least is worth your time. You are enriching your life and mind to read Lemony Snicket’s work.
Is It Oddlandish Certified?
