Despite what some politicians and people with way too much influence and money for their own good say, we all actually would quite like to be happy. Our lives are full of bad things and it’s easy to always focus on them and get really down and hate what life is, but we shouldn’t. We don’t have to live this way, we can always easily plan a life of happiness so that we can get over the hurdles of horrid when we get to them. For a life to be considered happy we tend to look at how happy people look in the public eye, when really we should be looking more personally. When we are trying to be happy it’s always going to be a personal journey, it’s not something that one person can fully influence you with as happiness is a personal thing that is different for us all.
Happiness is a broad spectrum because for many people it is a very different thing. Many people would say having lots of money means happiness for a person, whereas there are those, like me, who would say money actually makes people very unhappy and miserable. I’ve never seen a happy person who had billions of pounds. They are all too busy to experience real life. So I thought I would share what I’m doing to plan a life full of happiness because, well, this is my magazine/blog and I think that many people would benefit from being informed of what happiness might look like for different people.
Nowadays we are obsessed with stuff. Everyone just always wanting more stuff even if they’ve got lots of things. Moving into the future we need to try and find happiness in experience rather than things. I’d suggest that you find happiness in sorting through the clutter in your home and considering whether you actually need all the stuff that you have. Focus on just having essential things, not piling your house like a hoarders paradise. Things can be nice, but we shouldn’t be reliant on being so obsessed with things to be happy.
I always question whether people that don’t like animal are actually feeling human emotions. Even the smallest of pets can provide you with lots of happiness to considerably improve your life. Personally I have found that getting a pet has literally saved my life, my dog is one of the most important things I have ever bought, next to my subscription to Vogue magazine.
Surround yourself with only the most forward thinking and positive people. remember that other people close to you have the most influence over how you feel. So naturally it would be a plausible act to actually get rid of the negativity if you want to find happiness in your life. By this I don’t mean if someone is around you with abad mood you should completely ghost them and unfriend them on all social media, no. Just don’t be around people that you find are making your life more difficult or hindering your happiness every day. This could always be applicable to number one too, minimise your peeps!
Imagine for a moment that life isn’t all about money and material possession. Many people assume this is just the way to live. To make money, work, make money, buy things, consume and fit in. I find it kind of sad really that there is such a loss of individuality to the extent of what is happening right now. Look at Trump, he has become so obsessed with his own personal ideals he’s made it to the white house by brain washing the masses with what they SHOULD do and MAYBE might be in danger of.
It’s simple tactics that can be used on literally anyone who sees the world as this opportunists paradise of money and consumption. Many people seem to think that being different might be going for the unexpected, as in they vote for that horrible idiotic pleb because it’s ‘something different’.
No something different is going against what the horrible thoughts and disgusting beliefs say. It’s not hiding behind ‘belief’ so you can make an argument against happiness and love. ‘SOMETHING DIFFERENT’ isn’t voting for an unqualified candidate because your a rebel and you don’t do what the ‘liberals’ want. These labels as well, they are why I need a cleansing desert personally. These stupid labels that do nothing but separate one race into more and more groups and sub groups.
That’s why I’d advise we all create a space where we can go with absolutely nothing to make us stressed or angry or even accidentally judgmental because of societal conditioning. A nice white sand desert that is not only cleansing but peaceful and calming. It’s a place to realise your purpose and renew your knowledge about things that interest you. Its a place to find hope and strength in any troubles you may have in life. It’s a neutral space with nothing but your own thoughts and anxieties.
Anxieties that can be addressed and worked out. It’s important for us all to have a cleansing desert of our own because its a place we can go no matter where we are. It’s a place that’s in our heads so we can access it any time we want to. That’s a more important asset than most people realise. So if life is starting to stress you out a little as it does with us all, try visiting your cleansing white sand desert every once in a while and see how much it helps you.
Although winter is a great time in terms of my creativity, summer will always be a great time for me to gather many ideas for what I want to write. This year i’ve gone with quite an expected aesthetic with my writing talking about the importance of flowers. I’ve been discussing how I want to eventually plant thousands upon thousands of different kinds of every flower that I can get my hands on. Why? You may ask. It's all about conservation and aiming to do good for our planet rather than impact. I want to live my life knowing that i’ve actually achieved something. Achieving something to me isn’t about making money or writing lots of book sand getting published. Yes, that will enable me to do things to make an impact but I don’t consider it the impact in itself.
So what could I do to make this idea a successful venture? I thought about a garden, but a garden would be ruined quite quickly and not be large enough of a space. It would also be solitary and i wouldn’t be able to share the vision and creative space with anyone but me and a few others. No, I would want my idea to translate into a large public space that anyone would be able to visit. So I started to think about how i could really make sure I left an all important legacy piece of work.
I want to leave a legacy. One thing that has been going round my mind for a few days is a flower meadow, a vast landscape full of different kinds of flora. It will be a place that people want to flock to. A place they want to keep safe and care for. To be honest, this is how we should all feel about everywhere on our planet. Start to just care that little bit more. Then, people need the reason to care, and so for me a flower garden that is in full bloom during summer and is consciously protected during the colder months is a great idea. It may not be a theme park or a place to pump up loads of adrenaline. It will be a place to get back to nature, appreciate the beauty. To read and write and create wonderful things that can be shared. It will be a haven in a world of chaos.
It will be called Flowers In Summer. Which is of course a working preliminary title, but this is a dream of mine. To be in a position to buy land to plant all these flowers and plant life. Give them a safe place to live and provide seeds for future generations. I myself will spend time there and write books and articles and just create in general. Can you imagine a greater, more comforting place to be creative than a canopy amongst colourful, stimulating flora with rolling hills and sprawling fields of thousands of flowers. It would be great. Not just a social space, but a place of learning and creative, alternative thinking.
In a world that positions itself as a lover of depressing colours and bleak outlooks, we always have an inner desire to view the colourful potential of our world. Even the most depressed designers will want to add splashes of rainbow to their creations as some point, or a writer of bleak fiction might want to sneak in a chapter at the end where the characters fortunes finally turn around for the better.
We walk around like we love black, we hold our heads down and bump into each other every so often. These bumps are our minds subconsciously begging for us to all live more colourful lives. We should always be trying to find a way to add even a little more colour into our lives, in order to be happier. To maybe find a way to add pigment into our cheeks and excitement into our adventures. Maybe the reason why we all just feeling like life is passing us by is because maybe we are letting it. We are excepting that the boring things we wear are just what we have to wear, the bleak fiction is what we have to read and the boring buildings on grey streets are just what we have been given to live in. This is the mindset I would name The Boring Grey and black sheep mindset. It’s the mindset most people have found themselves to be in on a rollercoaster of life that never stops, slows down or lets them get off.
There are those who live life to the fullest though. They don’t care what judgments other people give or whether it’s the normal thing to do. From the moment they get up in the morning they make a choice to live a life in colour, rather than in black and white. And happiness is just the start for these people. They live in a mindset that I like to call The Coloured Pebble Mindset. It’s simple really, and it’s something that can be done both mentally and physically if you so possess. You can imagine or to make it a more rewarding and renewing exercise, you can purchase and paint some pebbles in many different colours and put them in a basket or container. Then, you live your life as normal, but when you come to a choice, a junction in life where you would normally just do what everyone else is doing, getting on the never ending rollercoaster. You stop yourself and you just get into that coloured pebble mindset of adding that little bit of colour into your life every time. Then, you can reward yourself by adding a coloured pebble into another basket. Every time you do something that you would consider a deviation from the norm, you can reward yourself for being in the mindset where you can live your life as you have always wanted to. You can see your reward coloured pebble basket fill up day by day and the other basket empty slowly. Like a perfect metaphor for you leaving your boring ordinary life behind. Try it, and tell me all about it.
Most people live their lives based on social interactions and societal expectations. Many would think it normal that going out every weekend and drinking alcohol is just what you do and is the way of life. As a writer I imagine that I look at things in a slightly different way. Writers must be conscious and take a step back from what has been engraved into their minds, along with every other person living on Earth. We are brain washed in a way, made to think that we must live life a certain way. This makes people crazy sometimes. They see those who would conflict with this way of living, even if the deviation is only slight. It confuses them and makes them mad. They can’t work out in their little brains how one would live differently. This makes these people violent and unruly. They think the only way to remedy this ‘problem’ they think is a problem is to commit an atrocious act of violence against innocent people who might not like to act the same or believe in the same things.
I think i've lived a life that’s made me susceptible to these kinds of horrible treatments. I actively promote living differently and thinking in ways that are not the norm. This is a way of life that makes me happy because being different can get you far. It introduces a new way of thinking and that can only be a good thing. The thing is though, i’ve never been the victim of any kind of violent behaviour. I feel very lucky to have lived all these years and not ended up in hospital or lying in a ditch beaten up because of how I look. I would say it’s because i’ve hidden well. I have in the way that I live in the same small town that I was born in, I have never been in a big city outside for an extended amount of time in a darkness containing the monsters of the night such as muggers and conservative thinkers. in many ways i’ve lived quite a solitary life. So far this has kept me safe. Yet, I feel like i’ve missed out on some things that I might have experienced in the darkness such as night time parties and festivals.
Really I think the best way to both feel safe being different and also live your best fullest life is to not care. It’s to plan well for the possibilities of being in unsafe places, planning to tell people where you will be, who you will go with and most importantly, finding events and places that are full of people who think like you too. The kindest people in this world, I have found, are the free thinkers, the hippies and those who are different in all the best ways. These are the people you should surround yourself with, because they are also great bodyguards when they need to be. Don’t mess with the free thinkers, unless you want to be hurt.
