How many times do we have to remind people that it’s 2017? That times change and views evolve? That humans have always, always evolved with how they think and view different things? This is literally what we are supposed to do. We don’t tend to live in the past, that’s a very unusual way of living. I don’t see how the idea of religion, something supposedly built on love and functioning to better the world, has evolved into the confusion it is today.
In this essay i’m focusing mainly on Christianity. I know a little about other religions but not as much as I’d like to. Even though I am not religious myself, I have a special interest in studying the history of religion and how they have evolved. Religion, much like money and business, are a concept invented by us. I find it so interesting that a concept invented by different sub groups of humans have become strict ways of living now. I’m not judging religious people by the way. This is just an opinion piece that tries to see why religion and bias should never be the same thing, like they commonly are today.
It’s coming to a point now where using religion as a way to skip over your clearly archaic and disgusting views is just a way to open people up to ridicule. It’s actually really embarrassing when I see people confidently on television or on the internet making themselves look like complete fools by saying that something is wrong or can’t be done because it’s in their belief.
Belief is something we all have. We don’t need to be religious in the most simple of terms. We all believe in the concepts of money and business. Some a lot more than other it seems. *cough* president of USA *cough*. Despite this, we all seem to live in a world divided by something that is supposed to bring people together. Religion is a lot like money in that a lot of people believe in it as a thing invented by other humans to progress the human race. So why then are we starting to get justifications from conservative, religious nuts who try to sound sane, but mainly fail. They say that it’s in their belief, or it’s in their religious texts, but they neglect the fact that a lot more people than do actually do not share this belief. This is what’s wrong in the modern world, a conflict between people who use religion or the church to live in a past where they could freely spread their bias view.
One thing I will never understand is why these people go to so much effort to spread such an unnecessary archaic attitude. Do they not realise that their time had come and gone years ago. Even the most religious people are beginning to accommodate and understand that there is a whole world beyond their own specific beliefs, and they would do a lot better and live a lot happier if only they opened their mind a little.
Well you know, it’s in my belief that you shouldn’t leave your house or bother speaking to people with a bit of education. Sorry, but that’s my personal belief, and you need to respect that. You see, personal beliefs should never be something that affects another person. Many would argue that the belief in fairness is still a personal belief but it’s really a very different thing. We can have good personal beliefs, and they can be used to affect the world for the better. Then, there are bad personal beliefs which the homophobes and xenophobes and people haters who use them to try and make themselves sound sane. Which we all know they are not.
I myself am not religious. I believe in nothing and increasingly this is the case with a lot of people. It’s fairly normal for someone to not be religious nowadays because we have more understanding of how the world works and why we might actually be here.
In my opinion and what i’ve learnt in the short time i’ve been on this planet is that life is all about experience and leaving a legacy for the next generation. It’s not about being as horrible and judgmental and destructive as you can in the time you inhabit this strange world. That being said though, make no mistake that I completely understand religious people.
They want to know that there is more and be comforted in something beyond what is fully understood, beyond science and understanding. Religion, to me, is about being a better version of you. It’s being open to learning new profound things and thinking about people beyond yourself. So to me it’s very conflicting when you see religious nuts going around spouting hatred in the name of religion. That’s literally the opposite of what modern religion is about.
NO, you can’t use scripture written thousands of years ago to support your claims to be bias about people, because once again, we live in the modern world where we don’t DIE IF WE HAVE A COLD. Is this a time that people really want to go back to all because of their beliefs. It was quite a miserable time for those who came before us, you know.
We need to start separating ideas of church from personal bias. If you have those beliefs, maybe instead of being proud to hide behind your so called loving religions, you should work on yourself first and foremost.
Work on being a better person who doesn’t have these hurtful ideologies that could potentially upset other people. Again, I'm not a religious person but in no way does that mean I have no morals. I have a lot more morals than a lot of religious people I see nowadays.
What happened to just praising you God in silence. Why does it seem like these religious groups are cultish now? Well, it’s because they kind of are. Modern religion has never been more cult like. because after all, if you gather in a group with extreme ideas that’s exactly what you can be rightfully labelled as, a cult.
